DRYER’S LIFE

It’s important to extend Dryer’s Life since they are expensive investment. Take the opportunity of having a fixed dryer to learn some simple steps that can keep your dryer working properly and extend its life and it might be a long time before you have to contend with a breakdown again. Here are three valuable things that you can do.

How To Maintain Dryer's Life

Follow These Tips:

Go outside and double check the vent cap

It’s normal for debris from your lawn, dirt or wet mud from rain to build up around your vent. Clear it out every now and then to ensure that the air is flowing freely.

Avoid Overdrying

When you’re sitting on the couch on laundry day and hear the clothes dryer running in the background, the last thing you might want to do is head to your laundry room and check the condition of the clothes in the machine. However, excessive drying is not only a way to increase your utilities bills—it’s also a way to burn out your dryer prematurely. Make a point of setting the machine for short drying cycles. You can them remove thin items that are dry and start another short cycle for other items. Don’t fall into the habit of setting a long drying cycle, as the clothes can all be dry partway through and the rest of the cycle just serves to wear down your machine.

Give your lint screen a deep clean

You clean the lint screen after every load, which is great.  But don’t stop there, wash it every three months with a touch of laundry detergent and rinse it thoroughly or even throw it in the dishwasher to clear off any dry sheet residue.

Make sure the lint trap is cleaned out

Take off the screen and with a dryer lint brush, clean inside the trap. Lint can and will build up there as well.

Make sure your vinyl or plastic exhaust vents are metal instead

Vinyl or plastic exhaust vents are much more likely to catch fire. Use metal and play it safe.

Ensure that the drum is cleaned

Wipe down the inside of the dryer drum with a microfiber cloth and a touch of rubbing alcohol to remove any residue left by the dryer sheet. Allow it to dry thoroughly to extend dryer’s life.

Clean The Ducts

Hopefully you’re already cleaning the dryer’s lint trap between each use, but the reality is that some of the lint escapes into the duct that runs from the dryer to the exterior of your home and can clog it. Over time, in addition to posing as a fire hazard, a lint-filled duct can decrease the efficiency of the appliance. This means you’ll be running it longer than necessary to dry your clothing. Pull the dryer away from the wall, remove the duct at the back and insert an extendable duct-cleaning brush into the opening to pull the built-up dust toward you so that you can vacuum it up.
