A rigid vent brush attached to a drill is an effective way to clean dryer vents. Built-up lint and debris can clog dryer vents over time, diminishing efficiency and increasing fire risk. A rigid vent brush allows you to scrape away debris and clear a vent path. Here are the steps to using a rigid vent brush to clean your dryer vent.

Purchase a quality rigid vent brush.

Look for a brush with hard plastic bristles in a diameter that matches your vent tubing. 4 to 5 inch rigid brushes work for most applications.

Acquire a handheld drill to attach the brush to. A low speed setting between 500 to 800 RPM works best for cleaning dryer vents.

Disconnect the dryer from power and disconnect the vent hose from the dryer. Attach the vent brush to the chuck of your drill.

Insert the brush head into the open end of the vent tubing.

Slowly twist and pull the brush through the entire length of the vent. As you move the brush, turn on the drill and the rotating brush will scrape away built-up grease and lint.

For vent tubes with bends or curves, twist the brush as you pull it through the bend. This helps remove debris from the inner walls.

Once you have pulled the brush through the entire vent, remove it and inspect the vent for remaining debris. Vacuum the inside of the vent thoroughly if needed.

For vents with multiple branches, insert the brush into each branch separately and spin the brush thoroughly as you pull it through.

In essence, using a rigid vent brush attached to a low speed drill is a hands-on way to deeply clean dryer vents. The spinning rigid bristles can scrape away debris that vacuum cleaners miss. Twisting the brush as you pull it through bends helps remove buildup from all vent surfaces.
